tell us a bit about yourself.
I'm a Capricorn, I love sneakers, rock music, hockey, I'm a twenty-something born and raised in Montreal, Canada, working on a book about sneaker culture.
what's your history with sneakers? first pair? etc
I love sneakers ! The first pair of sneakers I ever wore were Pumas. I love the new Adidas Adicolor campaign. I'm a big fan of the Alife sneakers. And I love the Swoosh too.
why sneakers? is it the style, the function, the statement they make?
It's gotta be the shoes ! The style, the stories behind the shoes, the colours too.
what's the sneaker culture all about? who's on the scene? what are they into? how does the culture communicate/convene?
Everyone loves sneakers, there are millions of sneaker fans around the world, even the Pope wore Reebok Classics.
how does one become a "sneakerographer"?
Drink lots of Evian.
what's "sneaker activism"?
I coined the term 'sneaker activism', so you can call me the pioneer of sneaker activism, I am applying activism to sneaker culture. There's old-style activism with people like Naomi Klein (also born in Montreal). This is new-style activism.
what's your current campaign all about?
This is the world's first and only international sneaker petition, more than 12,000 signatures from more than 50 countries.
how did it get started?
A man with a dream.
why the mcfly particularly?
Everyone dreams of walking in a movie star's shoes. The McFlys are the Holy Grail of movie sneakers. The McFlys were created just for the film, never worn beyond the silver screen, and I've always been fascinated by them. There's a sneaker legend that says that in 2015, Nike will come out with them. But I'm not going to wait 9 years. There are a lot of people who don't want to wait 9 years.
what's the response been - from nike?
This is sneaker history in the making, I'm going to organize a special meeting with Phil Knight, we will talk sneakers over some good Japanese tea.
from the public?
I receive hundreds and hundreds of letters from fans around the world every week, from Tokyo to Los Angeles, from Paris to New York, from Amsterdam to Montreal, I have become an international sneaker celebrity.
any fun stories?
The Washington Post wanted to know if I was a Nike spy, and a Hollywood insider sent me the contact information of Michael J. Fox.
there's rumour of a film from what i've read, what's that all about?
Yes, I'm in talks to make a documentary about sneaker culture, I'm also in development for a show on MTV, I've got some really exciting things in the works.
